Canadian Grand Prix 2019 - F1 Race

The 2019 Canadian Grand Prix (formally known as the Formula 1 Pirelli Grand Prix du Canada 2019) was a Formula One motor race held on 9 June 2019 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was the seventh round of the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship. It was the fifty-sixth running of the Canadian Grand Prix, the fiftieth time the event had been included as a round of the Formula One World Championship since the inception of the series in 1950, and the fortieth time that a World Championship was held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton after a controversial penalty was given to race leader Sebastian Vettel with his team, Ferrari, announcing their intention to appeal.

Sebastian Vettel was harshly-treated at the Canadian GP, with a host of former drivers claiming the Ferrari driver had nowhere to go when tangling with Lewis Hamilton.

The five-second penalty Vettel received when almost making contact with his Mercedes rival cost him a precious race win and provided the most contentious moment of the Formula 1 2019 season so far.

Ferrari have already confirmed their intention to contest the decision, after race stewards adjudged that Vettel “rejoined the track in an unsafe manner” and Hamilton “had to take evasive action to avoid a collision”.

The Sky F1 team were shocked after the call was made — Martin Brundle said he felt like he had been “kicked in the stomach” — while Jenson Button sympathised with Vettel and felt it spoiled an epic battle.
